Annual Fundraising Events
BlackJack and Scholarships Gala
Community members and philanthropy-minded businesses gather each year in May to enjoy a reception with the Darton Jazz band, a full dinner, casino-style faux gambling (* Note: no money is transferred), and dancing to the band the Headliners from Myrtle Beach, SC. Betting on education is the theme of the evening; proceeds go towards scholarships for Darton students.
Approximately 75 – 80% of Darton’s students receive federal or state financial aid. The Foundation awards scholarship funds to approximately 200 students a year; many students, however, who qualify because of excellent grades and community involvement, do not receive support because of a reduction in the amount of Annual Giving.
Let’s turn this around! Together we can make Darton the economic engine for southwest Georgia we know it can be.
Clay Shoot
Each year community-minded citizens and businesses with a love for sports, the outdoors, or hunting come together for a sporting clay shoot to support Business & Social Science Division scholarships. Without the support of the community for this event, the division's sole fund-raiser, most of its scholarship funding would not be possible. Set in the beautiful woods and fields of the Flint Skeet & Trap Club on Lily Pond Road, the morning’s shoot accommodates 20-plus teams of 5 shooters each. 100 percent of the proceeds go to students who are seeking a degree in Business or Social Science.
The day unfolds with registration in the morning and the shoot begins at 8:30 a.m. Once the competition is over, shooters and their guests enjoy lunch and refreshments at noon while they await the awards ceremony and prize drawing for the top scorers.
Everyone who participates will receive a memento of the day, and prize-winning opportunities abound.
Dinner Theatre
The annual Murder Mystery dinner theatre is eagerly awaited by the Albany community and friends of Darton. The event sells out most years, so please book your table early to ensure your spot. The Theatre, Music and Dance departments combine their talents to put on the show and the food is always excellent!
If you enjoy theatre, good food and dark comedy, this is the night for you!
Business After Hours
The Foundation hosts a Business after Hours for Albany Chamber of Commerce members as a way to give back to the community; the event sometimes highlights a basketball or soccer game or another campus event. Community members gather to network, mingle with Faculty and Staff and celebrate the mission of Darton and the Foundation.
